Extruded aluminium profiles have been an
integral feature of the locomotive industry for long. The locomotive
industry is using readymade profiles for use in both train interiors and
exteriors. Body of the train is made from extruded aluminium that is not
only durable but offers significant weight advantages also.

From the strong and durable luggage racks to the highly sophisticated
Locomotive Control Interface system, extruded profiles are everywhere. The
following image shows a Control Interface system housed in a sturdy extruded
aluminium enclosure.

Another very significant application of extruded aluminium profiles lies in
the Air Dyer package design for the railways. Air contamination is a genuine
problem with the railways. The solution lies in providing a clean, dry
compressed air that is oil-free to the equipment and applications that
require uninterrupted and continuous operation. The modular design of
extruded aluminium enables the dryer to meet specific application criteria.
Plastic and Rubber extruded profiles
Along with aluminium, plastic and rubber is also used in the locomotive
industry. Their uses lies mainly as seals for protective purposes. It gives
long life to the products. These extruded profiles are sometimes co extruded
to add more diversity and strength to the product line.

The image shown above illustrates the use of plastic and rubber extruded
seals in locomotive applications.
